The Five Factors That Determine Deliverability

Your deliverability health score is calculated across four pillars: authentication setup (SPF, DKIM, DMARC), list quality (bounce rate, complaint rate, acquisition method), sending practices (IP warm-up, volume consistency), and reputation signals (engagement rates, blacklist status). Each category contributes up to its maximum point value, totalling 100.

A score below 70 typically indicates active deliverability problems silently reducing your inbox placement rate. Scores above 85 reflect strong fundamentals — though even well-configured senders benefit from continuous monitoring to catch issues before they compound.

Score Interpretation

90–100 Excellent — strong deliverability fundamentals
75–89 Good — minor improvements recommended
50–74 Fair — active issues likely affecting inbox placement
0–49 Critical — significant deliverability problems detected

Why We Built This Tool

ESP dashboards show raw open/click rates but not ISP thresholds. Gmail's 0.08% deferral threshold and 0.30% blocking threshold are documented but invisible in Klaviyo or Mailchimp. This calculator surfaces what metrics matter and how close you are to ISP enforcement.

What Goes Wrong Without This

Teams focus on improving open rates without understanding why they're low. Low open rates, high bounce rates, and spam complaints are all symptoms of the same root cause: deliverability configuration or list quality. A score identifies which of the five factors needs priority.

Who This Tool Is For

Sales and marketing ops teams optimizing cold outreach sequences and transactional emails for deliverability and response rates.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes a good deliverability score?
A score above 75 indicates strong email authentication and list practices. 50-75 means areas to improve. Below 50 suggests immediate action needed on authentication, list quality, or sending patterns.
Which metric is most important for inbox placement?
DMARC enforcement (p=reject) is the single strongest signal. After that, hard bounce rate below 0.5% and spam complaint rate below 0.08% are critical. Content and list quality follow.
Can I improve my score without changing ESPs?
Yes. Most improvements are configuration-based: publish SPF/DKIM/DMARC records, segment unengaged subscribers, and clean bounced addresses. These are free and take days, not months.
Do I need an InboxEagle account to use this tool?
No. This tool is completely free and requires no account or sign-up. InboxEagle provides it as a standalone resource for email marketers, developers, and agencies.
